Creating a MiSTer SD Card Backup

Getting a corrupt SD card doesn’t happen too often, but when it does, it can really be a pain. Especially when the files are a file system created over time. This has only happened once to me on my MiSTer, but I know others have run into the issue as well. As the MiSTer continues to grow in usage within the Retro scene, I wanted to share the simple approach to mitigate having to due a full rebuild by creating an SD backup.

Tool used: Win32 Disk Imager (or similar)

Backup ISO Creation:
  • Select “Device” for the drive that represents your SD card
  • Select where to save, and provide a file name for the ISO
  • Select “Read” button to create backup image
Restoring ISO:
  • Select “Device” for the drive that represents your new SD card
  • Select “Image File” of backup ISO to create new SD card from
  • Select “Write” button to write image
